Is a slipping transmission always a rebuild?
No. Slipping is what low fluid pressure feels like, and low pressure has cheap causes as often as expensive ones. A leaking cooler line, a clogged filter or a failed solenoid all cause slipping. That said, if the fluid is burnt black and the pan is full of clutch material, the clutches are already gone and no fluid change fixes it. We check before we quote.
Will a transmission fluid change fix my shifting problem?
Sometimes, if the fluid is simply old or low and the unit has not been damaged yet. It will not fix worn clutches or a failed valve body. Anyone who promises a flush will fix a slipping transmission is guessing. We look at what comes out of the pan first, because the debris tells you the truth.
Do you offer payment plans on transmission work?
Yes. Transmission repair is one of the bigger bills a car hands you, and we set up payment arrangements so the repair can happen now rather than after the car has been sitting for two months. Ask when you get your quote.
How often should transmission fluid be changed?
Most manufacturers call for somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles, and sooner if you tow, sit in stop-and-go traffic or drive a lot of short trips. Heat is what kills automatic transmissions, and old fluid stops carrying heat away. Detroit stop-and-go driving is the harder end of that range.
